If you love fishing, then Shawnee
is going to be one of your favorite vacation spots. Fishing is available
year-round in the Poconos. Trout season opens mid-April and extends
most
of the year. Millions
of shad begin to pass through the Delaware Water Gap about mid-April and
run through early June. Large mouth and small mouth bass season opens
about mid-May and runs through the Fall months.
Panfish, musky, walleye,
pickerel, trout and bass, provide year-long fishing. Licenses are available at
more than 1700 locations
statewide. Locally licenses can be purchased at
the Shawnee General Store open 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. located on River
Road. Licenses are required by all persons 16 years of age or older and
are valid December 1 to December 31 of the following year. The cost is
$30.00 for a 7-day tourist or $15.00 for a 3-day tourist license with a
trout stamp costing $5.50.
Local spots for bass and panfish include
Gregory’s Pond in East Stroudsburg and Hidden Lake in Marshalls Creek.
Trout can be found in Big Bushkill Creek in Bushkill. Brodhead Creek in
Stroudsburg, Hidden Lake in Marshalls Creek and Pocono Creek in
Tannersville. The Delaware River in Bushkill is a source for all
regional fish including trout.
